There have been plenty of husband-and-wife teams in the history of art—some successful, others ending in divorce. In a nod to Valentine’s Day, the February edition of First Friday Films will feature a St. Paul couple who have happily and inspiringly collaborated on several artistic projects: Anne Labovitz and Bill Gamble. Their latest venture, short films that explore the materiality of paint, is the result of a unique process of collaborative conversation. Anne sends Bill imagery, which he scores with original music and then sends back to Anne. She “replies” with additional footage, and so forth.

Anne Labovitz is a painter and printmaker working primarily in portraiture and expressive colored abstracts. Anne has a degree in Art and Art History from Hamline University. Her work is in many private collections in the U.S.A. and Europe.

Bill Gamble studied Music and German Philosophy at both Dartmouth College and the Free University of Berlin, and has continually focused on the connection between music and literature. Bill is an accomplished keyboard player, and in recent years has focused on harpsichord, primarily English Renaissance.
