February 19–June 11, 2022.

Grupo Soap del Corazón is an exhibition presented in partnership with the Latinx art collective of the same name. Xavier Tavera and Dougie Padilla founded Grupo Soap in 2000. Since then, the group has connected and sustained hundreds of Latinx artists and their communities in the Upper Midwest through the healing power of art. (The group’s name comes from the title of their first exhibition, where each artist included work that addressed the question, “What is soap of the heart?” Or, put another way, what cleanses the heart?) This exhibition will be on view in the window and skyway exhibition spaces of the Minnesota Museum of American Art in downtown St. Paul, and is scheduled for Saturday, February 19 until Saturday, June 11, 2022.

In response to Grupo Soap’s ongoing engagement with street art and the exhibition’s location in the M’s street-facing spaces, the show may use “the street” as an organizing theme. This show may also include a public art component, perhaps a billboard.

The exhibition is curated by Dougie Padilla, Xavier Tavera, and the M’s curatorial team.
