Workman (1925-2015) spent his professional life inspiring and mentoring a generation of students at the Cleveland, Ohio public school system. He became a friend of Dillard while the two of them attended Cleveland’s East Technical School. Dillard achieved fame for winning four Olympic gold medals in track and field, two in 1948 (London) and two in Helsinki (1952).
