The M’s 2017 State Fair Purchase Award: Sam J. Orosz

August 31, 2017

Every year, the M’s curators head out to the Minnesota State Fair to select work to purchase for the museum’s collection. By adding new pieces from the fair’s annual juried fine arts exhibition, the museum aims to ensure that its historic collection of American art continues to showcase the depth, beauty, and diversity of art made right here, right now, by Minnesota artists.

This year, our Curator of Exhibitions and Public Programs, Christopher Atkins and trustee Nancy Apfelbacher chose for the M’s collection an intaglio print by a young St. Paul-based artist, Sam J. Orosz. Orosz graduated from the University of Minnesota, Duluth in 2014 with a BFA in studio art. In addition to the Minnesota State Fair Fine Arts exhibition, he has shown work at Highpoint Center for Printmaking, and also at the Tweed Museum of Art for his solo exhibition, Battlefield.
