Three Questions: Alexandra Bordelon
Having moved all over the country, Alex Bordelon is excited to spend her first summer in the Twin Cities with the M. As an intern, Alex looks forward to familiarizing herself with the M and the greater Twin Cities community while exploring her professional and personal interests in museum work. A senior at Macalester College, Alex majors in religious studies and minors in art history. You can often find her greeting visitors at the M’s welcome desk.
Many arts people remember a vivid early arts experience. What’s yours?
One specific arts-related memory doesn’t stand out. I was just always surrounded by it. I spent most of my childhood in Louisiana, living there for four years and staying with my paternal grandparents every summer. My great aunt, Louise Guidry, is a phenomenally talented artist, and stepping foot into her studio and witnessing her contagious passion for her work played a role in my love for art.
What one artwork in HERE, NOW: Selections from the M’s Permanent Collection makes you curious?
I am intrigued by Pillow Book by Helen Yuton Lee. I usually gravitate toward paintings, especially from the Renaissance era. For glasswork to capture my attention is fairly uncommon. I admire the craftsmanship of and the intent behind the piece. I believe it is a beautiful way to honor the artist’s late mother while also providing a unique outlet to manage her grief.

What work as the M’s intern will you be most proud of by summer’s end?
I’ll be most proud of the tour of the M that I have developed with the Visitor Experience department. It is the longest project I will have worked on as an intern, and I cannot wait to see my hard work come to fruition.
