In this personal essay, high school senior Waylon Rembert Jr. considers the lives and legacies of photographers Gordon Parks and Jamel Shabazz, in light of his own life path, so far, and choices that lie just ahead.
Saturday, Feb. 8, 15 & 22 @ 1 – 4 p.m. * Learn to drawn the human figure from direct observation and explore various materials and techniques, like contour, gesture, and schematic drawing. Live model present. All experience levels are welcome.
Lecture * Thurs., Feb. 20 @ 5 p.m. * Join art historian, curator, and co-founder of Obsidian Arts Suzanne Roberts for a look at photography’s past and present.
Sat., March 21 & 28, 1 – 4 p.m. * Learn how to make photos that center human experience, in all its dynamism and complexity with artist Roosevelt Mansfield. Take inspiration from images of Gordon Parks and Jamel Shabazz, and the layered process behind these photos’ making.
